Hugh who? The Sexiest Man Alive 2008. Really? by Diana Holquist

My friend Julie James and I happen to be a little obsessed by People magazine's Sexiest Man Alive. And why not? After all, we both wrote books about him.

But who exactly were we thinking of when we were writing? Hugh Jackman?

Disclosure: When People magazine picked Mr. Jackman as Sexiest Man Alive 2008, I didn't even know who he was. Do you know who he is? Do you think he's the one? Here's the poll we've been conducting of romance readers for the last few weeks. I ask again, Hugh who? The man barely registered. Is there something different about romance readers? Why Gerard Butler? And by such a huge margin? Vote in the poll and let me know what you think.

Diana, Diana, Diana! HOW can you call yourself a romance novelist and NOT have heard of Hugh Jackman. I am shocked, truly I am, and I think this means you need to go back to Romance Novelist School and take some remedial classes on Sexy men. May I recommend these basic courses in Sexy Men History?

Early Twentieth Century Sexy Men: Rudolph Valentino--How a Man Who Wore Lipstick Onscreen Became America's First Heartthrob

The Decadent Sixties: Sean Connery--Proving Real Men Have Chest Hair

The Eighties and The Dark Age of Sexy Men: Don Johnson--What Were We Thinking?

and of course

The Modern Sexy Man: Hugh Jackman--Sexy Men CAN Dance!

xxoo,
Elizabeth

Diana,

Oh-oh, now you've Elizabeth mad! And have been soundly lashed with a dark chest hair. Take that! (However, IMO you had punishment enough by not having a photo of Hugh Jackman to drool over. )

Get on the stick, girl! You're supposed to be the EXPERT on sexy men. And you've just let down the team.

Back! All of you!

I knew I shouldn't risk exposure like this. (I guess I better not tell Elizabeth I don't really know who Don Johnson is either.)

This is why I do these polls. To learn. Last year, I was introduced to the remarkable Gerard Butler after his fans almost took off my head for not including him in the poll. Note: do NOT piss off a Gerard Butler fan. They're intense.

And my daughter was aghast that some young fellow named Robert Pattison isn't on there. Again, I ask--who? A vampire? Really?

So many men, so little time...I do the best I can.

I've voted Gerard Butler, he is handsome as hell and he it's scott!!! but I like Hugh too.
You should see him in paperback hero, a romantic comedy that it's one of his first films I believe.he is a truck driver who writes romance novels in his free time, but when he is offered a deal from a mayor publisher, he is too ashamed and ask his best friend to pretend to be the author.

A male romance-novel-writing truck driver? Really? What a day of discovery this has been. I'm putting it on my Netflix list. Just as soon as I sign up for ALL of Elizabeth's classes. (You are teaching, right, Elizabeth?)

I guess it's all subjective. I adore Hugh Jackman. Gerard Butler does very little for me. *g*

Consider this a very educational experience, Diana. I still can't believe you don't know my future husband, Hugh. Now you are enlightened to his fabulousness.

BTW, I think a Sexy Man History should be your next blog topic, Elizabeth! With pictures, pretty please!

Michelle, I had no idea you were his Sheila (There, how's that for Aussie knowledge? I know SOMETHING about something...for what it's worth...).

Tori--RUN! HIDE! I'm so not kidding about Gerard Butler fans. They are serious. In fact, if I were Hugh Jackman, I'd watch out....

Hmm...maybe I could get Mr. Jackman to come hide over here. If you wouldn't mind, of course, Michelle.

Yeah, I don't get the Gerard Butler thing either. But Hugh Jackman...yum.

My lucky daughter was a seat-filler last week at the CNN Heroes Awards (airing on Thanksgiving), and all she could say about seeing Mr. Jackman in the flesh was, "He's much taller than I thought." Silly youngsters...
